Overnight stay in Ljubljana.

Day 2 – Ljubljana

Enjoy a guided walking tour of Slovenia’s capital. Cross the Triple and Dragon Bridges, symbols of the city, and admire the architectural works of Jože Plečnik, including the National Library with its striking columns and the elegant University Palace. End at Ljubljana Castle, perched on a hill, for sweeping views over the old town, surrounding hills, and the distant Alps.

Afternoon at leisure to explore independent attractions such as the Central Market, riverside cafés, or the cobbled streets of the old town.

Overnight stay in Ljubljana.

Day 3 – The Julian Alps

Travel to the Julian Alps, a region of soaring peaks and glacial lakes. Walk through Vintgar Gorge, a dramatic canyon carved by the Radovna River, featuring wooden walkways above rushing waters, cascades, and small waterfalls. Continue to Bled Castle, perched on a cliff above Lake Bled, offering panoramic views of the turquoise lake and surrounding mountains. Take a traditional pletna boat to the island and visit the Church of the Assumption, ringing the wishing bell for good luck.

Overnight stay in the Julian Alps area.

Day 4 – Soča River Valley

Drive over Vršič Pass, Slovenia’s highest mountain road, renowned for its hairpin bends, panoramic alpine views, and WWI history. Stop at the Russian Chapel, a memorial built by POWs, then descend into the Trenta Valley. Explore the emerald waters of the Soča River, famed for its clarity and striking colour, visit the alpine town of Bovec, and continue to Kobarid, home to the Kobarid Museum which recounts the dramatic Isonzo Front of WWI.

Return to your hotel in the Julian Alps area.

Day 5 – Velika Planina & Kamnik

Take a cable car or hike to the Velika Planina plateau, a high alpine pasture dotted with traditional wooden shepherds’ huts and surrounded by jagged peaks. Walk among the huts and visit the Chapel of St. Mary of the Snows, sampling local trnič cheese and sour milk.

In the afternoon, explore Kamnik, a medieval town with narrow cobbled streets, historic squares, and Gothic and Baroque buildings. Wander Šutna, the town’s most picturesque street and visit Liberty Square with centuries-old houses.

Overnight stay in Ljubljana.

Day 6 – Karst Region & Slovenian Coast

Visit Postojna Cave, travelling partly by electric train through its vast underground halls filled with stalactites and stalagmites. Continue to Predjama Castle, an extraordinary fortress built into a sheer cliff face, with hidden passages and medieval history. Head to Piran, a Venetian-style coastal town with narrow streets, squares, and pastel-red rooftops. Stroll along the seaside promenade and admire the coastal architecture.

Overnight stay in Ljubljana.

Day 7 – Ptuj & Jeruzalem Wine Region

Travel east to Ptuj, Slovenia’s oldest town, rich in Roman and medieval heritage. Explore Ptuj Castle, offering panoramic views of the Drava River, and wander the medieval streets and squares lined with historic houses. In the afternoon, drive into the rolling vineyards of Jeruzalem, stopping at a traditional winery for a tasting of local wines while enjoying views of the gently sloping hills.
